This is part of a series of works called ‘Portals’ that uses former front doors of houses as a symbolic entry, provoking the viewer to re-evaluate how they view everyday objects. This work is made using a reclaimed door which has been cut, turned inside out and then outside in - again emphasising the need to reconsider perspectives of everyday life.

Robert Marshall is a conceptual environmental artist. In 2018, he completed his MA in fine art at the Royal College of Art, with an essay titled, ‘Distinction, is sculpture becoming ‘noisier’ in the information age?’ He is one of the most prolific artists from the South-West and continues to redefine topics of social and economic importance. It is his belief that there is a need to not just look outwards when trying to protect the environment, but also within.

Our Planting Scheme

The plants here have been chosen to match the vibrancy of the sculpture’s colours and are specifically placed to create a door towards the art piece. The rear of the sculpture has been purposely kept natural to highlight an entrance into a peaceful and naturalistic world.
