Fractured II
BEATTIE, Mark
Material(s): powder-coated steel on stainless steel base
Current Location: Broomhill Estate
Status: available through Broomhill
This work was developed during lockdown. Beattie has turned away from fluid curves, a signature of his body of work which talks of happier journeys, and he has instead constructed a montage of dead ends. These lines begin looking for answers but end abruptly, representing the multiple attempts that we collectively faced during recent times. The stacked pathways appear to make their way towards a goal, ascending upwards on top of the teetering shoulders of the previously disrupted routes.
Awarded a BA Hons (International) in contemporary art practice at Leeds University and, more recently, an MA in European arts practice at Kingston University, Surrey. To date, he has exhibited in over 60 exhibitions in both groups and as a solo artist.
Our Planting Scheme
We have chosen to not partner this sculpture with any plants here, instead we felt it was best to add a place to sit. The sculpture depicts the fracture and struggles of day-to-day life, the straight edges to a complete stop. The setting of this art piece near the flowing river coupled with a chance to sit and contemplate allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the implication of the sculpture.
