Artist Statement

The sculpture takes its form from the Orrery, a mechanical device that illustrated the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons. These early planetary models tried to make sense of the world and explain the relationship between mankind and its environment. The sculpture proposes a similar function, in this case asking the viewer to consider the environment and the unseen forces and cycles that dictate the growth and time scale of things. Inherently, everything that begins has an end, prompting philosophical questions concerning our existence.
