Artist Statement

Crafting individual elements for sculptures from natural materials, I then place them together and watch them collectively develop their own sense of character. Through this process, the works become animators of space or performers creating events in particular places. The cone is a form that describes a volume, as well as suggesting a sense of direction. Using sustainably sourced UK cedar, the title makes a playful reference to the biblical tale of Noah and his ark; visualising part of the water cycle from volume to vessel, during this year of record rainfall within the UK.

“Forms of works, forms within works, constructions and placements are welded, threaded and delicately bolted together in marriages of lightness and heaviness, mass and void, tension and equilibrium. Just enough is an important measure.” Hayley Skipper, curator Forestry Commission England.
