Through my sculpture, I want seemingly benign domestic materials and subjects to take on a disconcerting, otherworldly quality, evoking the nature of dreams and memories. I like the idea of out-moded, discarded and marginal things returning as powerful presences. This series of sculptures is inspired by artefacts from European folk rituals and recurring images of animals from my dreams; something which has always fuelled my practice. I love the challenge of reanimating charged materials, such as old clothing and blankets, by hand stitching them into shape to mimic sinews, muscles and skin. I intend these domestic creatures and materials to appear familiar, comforting and playful whilst also seeming disconcertingly sinister and malevolent.
