Artist Statement

I have always been interested in the identity of a sculpture, regardless of whether a work is figurative or abstract, each piece is an object within its own right and each piece has its own characteristics. I am intrigued by stripping away the notion of hierarchy, institution and other artificial constructs to understand a more authentic sense of self. With these artificial constructs and narratives removed from an individual, it becomes apparent that what you are left with is a person imbued with their own unique characteristics. I feel these characteristics fundamentally underpin and create these larger narratives and that each is reflected upon itself. B’boy Cush is one piece in an ongoing investigation of the intrinsic nature of the character that underlies sculpture.
