Tuppeny’s work has for many years been inspired by heritage (museums etc.) and the very human practice of displaying material culture. However, Tuppeny’s current output progresses from this to focus on our experience of age in the physical environment around us. ‘Aged Stump’ is investigating the fact that nothing lasts forever. Decay is part of the natural cycle, and evidence of this is all around us in this woodland and has been incorporated by Tuppeny’s design. Examining the detail on the surface of the work reveals complexity and textures which are ever-changing as time passes by. The work is made from bronze and copper, which have a high resistance to the elements but will perish if not properly cared for; some bronze artefacts date back as far as 4500 BC. Tuppeny’s current output follows several divergent strands bound together by an interest in how we present our species to ourselves.

Our Planting Scheme

The decaying of wood allows our mini-beasts to move in. The start of the food chain. Without these important creatures breaking down our woodland remnants, we wouldn’t have our fertile soil but most importantly the food chain would likely collapse. The importance of habits is our philosophy here at Broomhill and this art piece personifies it. We have chosen to install the wildlife area with woodland-style planting to partner with both philosophies.
