Lisa has used the natural forces in the kiln to alter the shape of glass, aiming to connect people with the essential processes that have formed us and our environment. The work creates an experience for the viewer, focussing on their distorted image reflected on the surface of the work. However, five circular pieces of the reflection are missing – instead, they see the natural scene behind, mixing their image with the surroundings.

Originally from California, Lisa Pettibone is a UK-based visual artist, teacher and curator. She has an MA in art and science from Central Saint Martins London and a BA in 3D design in glass from UCA Farnham. In February 2022, her work travelled to the International Space Station as part of the Moon Gallery ISS Test Mission – the first gallery in space.

Our Planting Scheme

Lisa Pettibone’s sculpture allows the viewer to see the wider environment through their reflection, causing a connection with the wider environment. These plants have been chosen specifically to bring the wider environment of the estate into the forefront with this sculpture and all will be found throughout the gardens. Additionally, the mixture of vibrant colours, edible plants and the benefit to flora and fauna replicates the ethos of the estate.
