Artist Statement

The process of collecting fascinates me; previous artwork has focused on responding to man-made objects found on beaches and also to the structure of bones. I work on differing scales, producing large concrete forms as well as porcelain installations. My inspiration for this piece comes from the huge variety of seed and pod shapes that are both exquisitely beautiful and entirely functional. I am responding to their forms and highlighting common structures to show the huge variety found in nature. By using unglazed pure white porcelain, I draw attention to the often unobserved detail of their structures. I use a formal display format to allude to museum collections and the fragility and current precariousness of many of our plant species.
